Random Thoughts

yes, I'm in one of those moods... here it is:

--first of all, I just need to say that the gym is one of the oddest places on earth!!! I know I've said this before, but I really like going to the gym. and pair that with the fact that I usually go 5 times a week, and I guess that kind of makes me a gym rat. and going to Gold's, I usually see all the other gym rats: from the people that wear the too tight clothes and have terrible form (i can see the future: joints & muscles getting screwed up all over the place!) to the people that actually look good in the too tight clothes and have you instantly feeling like the world's biggest shlump. all the sterotypes. but tonight I did my cardio and got stuck behind the world's worst gym-goer: the old guy with the gas. yes, I did 40 minutes on the elliptical behind the guy that just could not keep it in. it was intermitently escaping from his cargo sweat shorts while he leaned over to read his magazine with his bottle glasses. and I have decided this was a sign to just stick with hip hop on wednesday nights so as to avoid the possibility of running with a new undesirable gym rat crowd (and my mother warned me about hanging with the wrong crowd!) :Þ

--why didn't someone warn me against taking accounting???? okay okay so you all did, but still! I am SO over it. and after sitting in the Six Sigma workshop all day yesterday and completely burning out my brain, class was the last place on earth I wanted to be. and getting back a C+ on a test I didn't even think was fair was a big blow to my psyche (and my A average!) thank god there are only 5 classes left!!!!!!

--I have decided I want a chinchilla. and I want to name him Chico :) yes, Truman might get jealous, but they'd learn to get along, right? maybe even as well as Truman and Rosie do... ummm yeah...

--Maroon 5 is a fantastic live band!!! If you ever have the chance to go see them, definitely do! now, Maroon 5 is kind of a random band, and totally pop of the moment, but I have loved them ever since I got their CD last year. and I have great memories of them involving my moon roof and summer nights... and waaah waaaahing with steph... but anyway, this show was seriously one of my favorite ever. and the coolest thing was when chad hugo, of neptunes, n.e.r.d., and VA Beach local fame, came out and played with them, and they broke out "Frontin'". awesome!!!! can't wait til summer concert season...

--and on the series of live bands, WHAT is is about LEAD SINGERS that is SO freaking sexy???? I mean Adam Levine-- cute, but not anything special. but then he wears low-slung jeans with a hole in the crotch and he sings all up in the microphone... and then WHOA! he is all of a sudden really really HOT!!!! not quite sure what to call the whole lead singer effect, but mmmmm anyway :)

--I LOVE cucumbers! they are nature's most perfect raw veggie! (just thought I'd share)

--ok lastly-- I am currently planning summer trips. woohoo to geeting away! anyone want to go somewhere fun???? let me know if you either want to take a trip or don't mind havign a visitor around for awhile. and remember, the invititation is always open here-- I mean c'mon, I live at the beach!!!! :)

k back to America's Next Top Model! lol. gnight all!

San Antonio: Part I

ok I'm back. sorry this has taken me so long, but hey I'm not even really unpacket yet! how could I have blogged?! :) anyway, this is gonna have to be in two parts because I'm not really in the mood to type tonight... so here it is-- company vacation part 1!

March 17, 2005

woohooo it's St. Patrick's Day!!!! we meet at work at 5:30am to go to the airport, where we are met by our ride (aka my boss), who happened to have gone out last night and partied late. greeeeeat. yes, this just means he is even more rude than normal! just kidding. well, for the most part anyway :) ok aaaanyway. we get to San Antonio with no problems at all and not even a lot of airport pain. but THEN we go to the hotel.

well, the company booked us at the Microtel Inn & Suites, which is the host hotel for the show we're going to, so you'd figure it would be a nice place. hmmmm... yeah. so, we get there and find out that they had almost cancelled our rooms. why? well, they had tried to charge the card for the room before we even checked in. but, the rooms were on a generic card that got declined-- all the even people have their own cards that they actually pay for things with. still all fine, though. they saved the rooms and we got there fine, although the postage stamp-sized pool should have warned us against things to come. they also booked us smoking rooms. ick. so we go in, decide it's kinda gross looking, but whatever, it's a place to sleep. but THEN I decide to use the bathroom. I walk in to find DRIED URINE on the seat and urine still in the toilet itself! GROSS!!!!! so steph calls the manager right away, who instead of apologizing says we are lucky to even have the rooms b/c of the credit card issue. yeah so we decide to leave and end up finding find MUCH better rooms at the Quality Inn down the road. and CC even got a suite, so she was happy. ew.

now that we are sufficiently pissed off and it's too late to get any real setting up done, we decide to get pretty and go celebrate St. Patrick's Day downtown! woohoo! so we don our beads and head down. now, when people told me about River Walk, I thought it was going to be a river with some shops and maybe some bars by it, almost like how it is in Savannah. NOTHING prepared us for how incredibly cool River Walk really is!!!!! it is actually a whole other level under street level that goes on for miles where there's a little river (20 feet wide max?) with all sorts of trees and old hotels and one of a kind restaurants lining it. It is honestly one of the coolest places I've ever been. I put a pic below. After checking out the Alamo (pic also below), we settled in for dinner at a fun little place called Dick's. This place was so random-- when people asked for napkins, the waiters threw napkins at them screaming "is this enough for you?!" and they kept putting random hats on random people! the one Steph got that said "my thong has skid marks" has to be the funniest thing I've ever seen in a restuarant. the night overall, though, was fantastic. we hung out downtown all night, relaxed, had some drinks, and really just enjoyed ourselves. what a great first day.

on a last note, did you ever wonder what Jack in the Box would be in Spanish? well don't worry, because Steph figured it out: Jacko en el Boxo! :Þ

March 18, 2005

ah it's show day. and believe me you NEVER know what to expect when you're dealing with 25,000 bikers, so we had to make sure we were prepared. first thing after getting there and unpacking, we introduced ourselves to our neighbors. there was Kenny and the other guy (never quite learned his name) on one side and a bunch of guys running a clothing shop on the other. didn't think much about any of them until it came time to set up the tent. it says EZup but it is not all that easy if you've never done it before! so the three college-educated girls fiddled with the damn tent for a good 15 minutes, when we turned around for a sec and noticed that all four guys from the clothing booth were just standing there whispering and laughing while they watched us. seemed taking a break to laugh at us was much more fun than unpacking heavy leathers :) and, that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. hahaha.

so we finally got the thing up and then headed off to get some more stuff. and guess what we found! SUPER TARGET!!!! now, I've seen Target Greatlands, but this was a whole new site: a Target just like a Super Wal-Mart with food and everything and even a Starbucks inside! pure heaven :) so we get back and carry on settting up (after lunch at Jacko en el Boxo) when we again see the guys cracking up at us! why? well, as Louis said, "didn't you guys notice you didn't have to duck under your tent anymore?" lol. yes, while we were gone, the boys took pity on us and raised our tent. hmm it had seemed higher... the only bad thing was that one of them could not remember our names! on separate occasions, Fernando called me, Steph, and CC all "Jennifer". god knows why. so, that's what we started calling him. and thus, our new friend Jennifer was born. we are nuts.

so after meeting plenty of characters at the show that night (the guy with the best shirt ever is below with CC and Steph-- let me know if you can't read it!!!), we decided we deserved some relaxation. and since we were right next to thr Spurs arena, we figured we might as well go!!! I had never been to an NBA game, and even though I'm not a huge basketball fan, live sports are always fun. the boys came too (well, Alex, Louis, and "Jenny" anyway), which made it even better. and after the game we even talked our way down to the court and took our picture with one of the players' dads :) and then after that, we decided we couldn't have a whole day without the river walk, so we headed down and grabbed some dinner. all in all, definitely a fantastic end to a fantastic first real day of the trip.

check out the pics below... i'll post some more later. gnight for now! :)

River Walk-- cool, huh?

The Alamo, tourists and all

doin it up right on St. Paddy's Day

best t-shirt ever!!! even beats the one I saw at the New Orleans bike show last year that said "tell your boobs to stop staring at my eyes!" :)

yeah, I'm back...

ok, San Antonio was absolutely fantastic (disregarding yesterday's airport drama), and I will blog about it and post some pics, but I need time to get it together! Until then, here's some randomness:

--First of all, I passed my first CPCU test!!! woooohoooo! I am on step closer to Hawaii in 2007 :Þ But, I think I failed my accounting test tonight. Just about everything on it was from the one class I missed when I was deathly ill with that damn stomach bug. oh well.

--Today in general was crazy. Since it was my only day off in weeks, I made 3 appointments for things I needed to do and then drove all over all day getting them done! But, my car is happy, my doctor is happy, and the cats, well, they got their yearly shots (weren't so happy!)

--Speaking of the cats, I just have to say that pets are the coolest things ever. Now, my cats are vet terrors now that they're older, which isn't so fun, but today Truman was hilarious. After he got done growling and hissing while the poor vet was trying to give him his shots and take his temp, he was set free to roam around the little room while Rosie had her turn. Well he decided to settle down on top of the counter away from all the action and just look annoyed for awhile. But every now and then he'd let out a loud random growl, totally like a kid pouting and totally as if yelling "hey! I'm still here and I'm still pissed off!" and everytime he did I couldn't help but laugh!!! cats are hilarious.

--some advice: never have Car Spa change your oil! The Acura dealership knew right away I had my last oil change done somewhere else-- apparently they hadn't completely reattached the filter and there was oil all over under my hood. luckily no real damage. I don't know why I didn't just take it to the dealer in the first place since it's free and all. but now my beautiful car is oiled, rotated, and happy :) and I can't believe it's almost a year old!!!

ok well, back to work tomorrow. I am anticipating 20 million emails, some issues with our trip lead, and a load of grief from my boss. sounds like a fun day, huh? anyway, hope everyone has a good week!

Weekend Recap

what an odd weekend... I feel like I got nothing done, but hey I did do a whole lot of shopping! Anyway, here are my weekend insights:

--first of all, I learned that I can successfully cook fish! lol. I figured, hey it's good for you, and I'm kind of sick of chicken, so why not try. so, I made a quick salmon recipe and it came out great! and, my cats are so well behaved that they didn't even try to eat it! how in the world did I get cats that don't like people food?! but, it also smelled up my whole house, but just the fact that it was something new and fun made my weekend! fish is fun :)

--well, like I said, I did MAJOR shopping this weekend. it is quite easy, though, to pick my favorite purchase: my new Gap jeans!!! see, now some of you out there apparently did not grow up in Gap jeans, but I did-- I remember my first pair in elementary school (black jeans when they were in style) all the way up to my favorite high school pair (classic #13 button flys). But then I discovered other brands and I forgot Gap for awhile, but then I found the most PERFECT pair ever on Saturday! so, I splurged a little. but they are worth it. they make my ass look fantastic and they are SO comfy. in fact, they are oddly reminiscent of the ass jeans involved in the sophomore year sorority greek sing practice when I paraded around all night and then told poor Laura Krolak how lucky she was to be behind me because she got to look at my ass. and that apparently has become sorority legend... :) anyway, I don't know what it is, but something about these jeans makes me ridiculously happy. they are wonderful.

--a lot of you know too I took Friday off as a study day... well, knock on wood I think I may have passed my first CCPCU test Saturday morning!!!! I am not sure yet, but I really felt like I knew most of the answers. but, you never know with those things. so, my goal may now be achievable: if you complete your CPCU (8 college type courses), the company sends you all expenses paid with a guest to wherever the national CPCU conference is the next year. well, if I complete all 8 by June 2007, I go to HAWAII!!!! woooohoooo! so, I have made this my goal and I have already decided I will take my mom with me. and when I called her and told her to start packing, she thought I was a little odd, but oh well :)

--on another note, because I took that test Saturday morning and then helped cover the floor for a shift during Chris's party that night, I felt like I never left that damn place. and I definitely work too much-- for instance, I even tried to use the word "kust" in Text Twist!!!! terrible, I know. and on the note of Chris's party-- work fuctions outside of work are just weird. you still can't be yourself because it's still your bosses and your peers and all, but everything else about it screams party. never know quite how to act! so odd...

--I also need to stop going to Wal-Mart. everytime I go, I get so confused and then I wonder if I'm going crazy! see, both Super Wal-Marts close to here look the same when you walk in-- food on the right, cosmetics and health stuff on the left... but everything else is completely different! and I can never figure out which one I'm in and where I need to park and go! Wal-Marts are so ridiculous anyway. I wish there were smaller places that could compete with them... but I'm the one saying this and still shopping there, so it's my own damn fault.

--and in one other note, I was at Hecht's on Satuday ringing up my purchases, and I asked the somewhat condescending old woman if the Lynnhaven store would become a Macy's. and the answer I got was "nothing is official until the goverment approves the deal!" as though I had been the 100th person to insult her by asking. so, we'll see :)

--and lastly, 4 days til SAN ANTONIO!!!!!! AND, we fly in on ST. PATRICK'S DAY and have NOTHING to do until the next morning! woooooohooooooo for good times on River Walk!!!! and, my boss told Steph and I that he would be upset if we didn't drink on the plane, although I'm not sure whether or not he was joking and have decided not to find out. but man, all I can say is that CC is not going to know what hit her! :)

k back to laundry... hope you all had fun this weekend!!!

Friday, March 11, 2005

am I the last to know???

so apparently the Macy's parent company bought out the owner of the Hecht's-- I heard yesterday and just looked it up, and sure enough... so does this mean MACY'S is coming to VIRGINIA BEACH???? AAAHHHHH I am so excited!!!!! Because really, I always wondered why May Co. and Macy's were two different companies when they sound so much alike... :)

Really, though, the thought of only having to drive 5 minutes instead of 3 hours to fulfill my shopping obsession is fantastic! My only complaint: why couldn't they buy out one of the sucky stores around here, like Dillard's? Hecht's (Strawbridge's at home) has always been my second favorite and for some things my first! maybe, though, that's just because I've gotten so used to settling :Þ I guess we'll see what happens.

well, onto the next era of shopping...

weekend recap: things I learned

well, as I normally do when I drink t0o much (which luckily is not very often), I am giving up drinking forever. but, I've also done this a lot, so we'll see how long this lasts...

anyway, it was Pub Crawl weekend, so we went up to Fredneck on Friday and made a fun weekend out of it. What a weird weekend, though! But, I learned some important things... Here are a few of them :)

1. never be "that guy"-- if girls don't want you around, just go away! don't try to coach them on pool! and it seems that the guys that are actually there with the girls don't like being usurped, even if everyone's just friends. boys are so cute though when they get protective :)

2. old friends are the best friends-- it was so much fun to hang out with Kimmy! totally made me remember all the suite fun we used to have. and even though Brent isn't quite as old a friend, he's still one of my favorite people. just wish he were still close enough to play some cards with when I need some downtime...

3. shopping is better when there's more than one mall!-- hey it's true with KoP, and it's definitely true at Tyson's! we didn't have time for Container Store, but I did hit up Macy's, Sephora, and Nine West, and believe me I had quite a good time. shopping kicks ass.

4. Chipotle rocks!-- nuff said. we need one here!

5. know your limits-- in other words, when you're used to drinking beer, don't drink captain & cokes with the boys all night... ummm yeah...

6. pub crawls are more fun when you're single!-- you can flirt with random orange bus hotties, you can win t-shirts for human pole dancing shows, and you can even exchange numbers with guys with muscles. now, the wives and girlfriends of all of the above don't seem to like this too much, but hey it's a pub crawl! anything goes! :)

7. cameras are handy little tools-- and my new one is especially fun! I am always the one with the camera. yup, I'm that girl. but, that also means I am the one who always has the good blackmail for later ;)

8. road trips are fun-- even if they're short, they're still a great diversion from the daily grind, and traveling is just awesome anyway. anyone want to take any fun weekend trips this summer?

okay unfortunately, now it's back to the daily grind... see below though for my fave pic of the weekend. I know it's a weird choice, but it's the only one that had us cracking up! we are so dumb...

Tuesday Picks & Pans... on Thursday

okay I'm already tired of packing, so here's this week's list... and yes, it's late again. we may have to move this Tuesday stuff!

PICKS

Tivo-- okay so it's Cox DVR and not Tivo brand, but same difference-- I LOVE it!!!! I don't know how I've gone so long without it! one click and I'll never miss Gilmore Girls again :)

the new diet sensation: getting sick-- I lost 5 pounds in two days! hahaha. and yes, this is completely tongue in cheek-- I fully recommend eating...

compliments-- there is nothing as wonderful as a sincere compliment. and for some reason everyone loved me when I got back to work Wednesday! I got a ridiculous amount-- my favorite though were the ones on my new outfit (yay outlets!), that I look thin (yay gym!), my makeup (who knows why, I didn't change anything except adding a great new Clinique color), and my adorable new Dooney (yay just because it's so cute!). and compliments are ALWAYS a pick, so if you'd ever like to send any my way, feel free :Þ

106.1-- this station advertises that it plays all of the hits, not just some of them, and so far, it seems to be true... I think it's digging 94.9, who refuses to play hip hop or some normal pop but is otherwise pretty good. I am hoping 106.1 will actually be the first normal variety Virginia Beach hits station...

hiphop twice a week-- woohoo for another class during the week and a faster paced Wednesday class! I love hip hop. I still probably look really stupid, but hey, it's fun! (one, two, three UH UH :Þ)

gadgets-- I have realized that I am definitely a gadget girl... from my car's nav system to my iPod, to my Palm Pilot (aka Pete), to my new wonderful digital camera... when did I become a tech nerd?!

Oprah-- still lover her. and now I can Tivo her! did anyone else see the dreams episode with the kid and Mariah Carey? awwwww!!!!!! the wildest dreams episodes are definitely my favorites.

PANS

getting sick-- other than the sudden weight loss, being sick sucks. thank god it passed as suddenly as it came on. I think Sunday and Monday were quite close to the most miserable days of my life. and like I said, I am terrible at being sick...

having difficult conversations-- yeah I took the class and all (damn management classes), but I can't figure out how to relate it to telling Six Foot Four I don't want to date him anymore! anyone have any ideas? I am such a wimp with boys!

Anthony Federov-- those of you that watch American Idol may know who he is... well, he is my connection to the show this year, as he is from Bucks County. in fact, he follows in the Bucks County tradition of the oh-so-successful Justin Guarini in season 1, and my random connection to the show in MWC Mark in season 2, who auditioned doing the Beaver Song that we used to sing in IV. and believe me, seeing Paula Abdul doing the beaver jive was priceless. but I digress. anyway, I don't like Anthony. besides just kind of annoying me in general, he reminds me of the Russian invasion that took over my high school and now resides permanently in Neshaminy Mall. they traveled in packs, they had rumors of mafia ties, and you just knew they were talking about you and you just couldn't understand them... and that is why I will not vote for Anthony. well, I probably won't vote at all, but if I do it won't be for him! and I have also decided that my teenage grudge is a good reason not to :)

when people try to ruin stuff-- the worst part is, I think (hope at least) that they do it unconsciously. and i'm not gonna explain this too much (sorry if it doesn't make any sense), but it's something that makes me SO mad.

boys who create drama-- luckily don't have one, but can understand vicariously. grrrrr. boys are supposed to be the SIMPLE ones! and drama isn't good for anyone.

rude ignorant kids-- ok so I Tivo'd Wife Swap (yes, the addiction is already out of control), and there was this kid this week that I wanted to reach through the TV and SLAP! he is 17 but already thinks he knows everything about everything and had no respect for what anyone else believed, which is exactly what he was trying to prove he was above. and the parents TAUGHT him to rebel against all authority and then wondered why even they couldn't control him. oooooh stupid kids make me mad... okay random vent over :) and I can't believe I'm already complaining about "kids these days"! lord I'm old... ;)

packing-- yeah and now I've gotta get back to it. goal: don't forget anything this time!!!

Happy weekend everyone! I know I will be enjoying mine: old friends, lots of fun, and MACY'S! :) have fun with whatever you're up to too!!!!
